Media Diary:

I did this assignment for my Scholars Media, Self, and Society class during Fall 2019. This records my media usage over a few days, and some reflections I had along the way. This was one my first design projects.

Field Trip Reflection:

In Fall 2019, my Media, Self, and Society class took a field trip to a free clothing shop for financially unstable families. This is my reflection from the trip.

Scholars Ad:

This ad was created using 'cultural frames' associated with advertising. Specifically, this ad utilizes the idea of Totemism: individuals are attracted by ads that emphasize belonging, community, and greater purpose.

About me

I am a Communications major involved in the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program at the University of Maryland. I want to use my degree to connect with individuals across the world, and I want to use my education to do so competently.

I personally come from a family of artists and musicians, and as such I hope to embrace this part of my background. My father has been a musician almost his entire life, and I am an amateur composer. The creativity that I have learned through my musical education, I hope, will help me carry the kind of positivity and uniqueness that I hope to embody in my career.

In this way, the Scholars program was perfect for me. Its focus on individuality, community, and involvement have helped me to keep this personal mission alive. Likewise, the Communication major has helped through giving me the tools needed to achieve a creative, open-minded, and fulfilling approach to my work.
